Spring 2019

April 5, 2019

Fellow ACC Colleagues,

It appears the snow is melting and Spring may finally be upon us, but within NY ACC, things have been heating up for quite a while! Having recently returned from the national ACC conference in New Orleans last week, I am once again rejuvenated with all the activities that the New York ACC Chapter and national ACC have ongoing. The conference was terrific with great scientific presentations and networking opportunities, however I think the New York Chapter stole the show this year with our parade in the French Quarter. For those who couldn’t attend, you may be aware that we strive to host a reception at the national ACC meetings each year for state Chapter attendees…[Read full column here]

Spring 2017

May 3, 2017

It was great to see so many of you at ACC.17 this year, and I want to thank those of you who attended our joint reception with the Connecticut Chapter. We had an extraordinary turnout.

We had a tragic loss in the cardiovascular family a little over a month ago, ACC Past President Leonard S. Dreifus, MD, MACC. Bill Lawson, MD, FACC Dreifus and his wife, Seline, were well known for their philanthropic work, especially the gracious donation of the “Man Helping Man” sculpture installed at Heart House in Washington, DC.

We were, and remain, very thankful for his outstanding contributions to the field of cardiology. “[The statue],” said ACC President Walsh, “reminds us not just of the legacy left by Dr. Dreifus, but also our purpose in serving our patients and the public good as clinicians.”

I hope that many of you are planing to attend next month’s Annual Cardiovascular Team Symposium in Canandaigua, NY. This is our 10th year hosting this event, and we will close out the conference with the Inaugural NYACC Summer Soirée, a party and networking event featuring the band Nik & The Nice Guys.

I am also excited to tell you that we have set a date for this year’s Annual Meeting & Scientific Session and the Inaugural New York FIT Jeopardy Competition & Cocktail Reception, which will be Dec. 6-7, 2017. If you are a fellow in training, consider participating in this year’s Young Investigators’/Case Presenters’ Award Competition. It is a wonderful opportunity to present your research to a distinguished group of speakers and to your fellow CV professionals.

Lastly, the New York State Chapter has partnered with the Argentina Chapter of the ACC and will be working with its leadership to create an exchange program for FITs and lecturers. We look forward to sharing the details about this exciting partnership as they emerge.

Nurse Appreciation Month Discount

National Nurses Week runs from May 6 – 12 this year, but a week is not nearly long enough to properly show our appreciation for the important role nurses play in transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health.

That’s why, through the end of May, nurses (RNs, NPs, CNSs, APNs) who become members of the ACC pay only $85 for 2017 membership—nearly 40 percent off the usual price—using the code ThnkNurses. The ACC is a stronger organization—and our mission ever more achievable—when all members of the care team contribute their expertise.

Encourage your nurse colleagues to join the ACC and get access to benefits worth thousands each year that will help them elevate their careers and the quality of patient care they provide. Learn more here:
