Winter 2017
February 2, 2017
Dear Member,
I had a great time in Orlando last week at the 2017 ACC Leadership Forum and CV Summit.
Each year ACC brings together an array of experts in the field of cardiology, business practices and leadership to offer an educational experience that leads to operational excellence, cost efficiency and leadership training during this time of radical care delivery transformation, and this year did not disappoint.
We had a chance to network with other cardiologists and CVT members from around the country and to discuss the major changes for our industry that are coming our way.
Lieutenant General Hertling spoke to us about the basics of leadership and gave his proven examples of success in Healthcare Leadership Training, and there were many sessions on MACRA and what we can expect as we move to a new model of care.
MACRA went into effect on 1/1/2017. It was passed with bipartisan support with the objective of replacing the SGR, improving value, and containing health care costs. Failure to participate in the program (either MIPS or an alternative payment model) will result in a 4% reduction in CMS payments in 2019.
It is also important to know if you report individually or as a group (dependent on tax ID number) as to how your quality metrics will be collected and analyzed. Having an EHR able to reliably pull the measures that you select will be essential for accurate and complete reporting. Cost will not be a factor this current year but will rise in importance in coming years. Continually updated information and past webinars can be found under MACRA onACC.org.
While there, we also were very pleased to introduce your newly elected upstate and metro NYACC Governors, Chad Teeters, MD, FACC, and Norma Keller, MD, FACC, respectively, to ACC leadership and their soon-to-be fellow governors. See their mini bios below and join me in congratulating them on their elections as Governors to the New York State Chapter of ACC.
And finally, I hope to see many of you at the 10th Annual CVT Symposium and our FIRST-EVER NYACC Summer Soirée on June 2nd. Save the Dates have been out, so be on the lookout for yours.
We also have several other great events coming up. Click on the ‘Events’ tab to see what’s in store!
In service,
William E. Lawson, MD, FACC | Upstate Governor
President, New York State Chapter of the
American College of Cardiology
